Sturbridge Rotary hosted eight Tantasqua students and many of their parents at a recent meeting. On Class Day the students were presented scholarships from Rotarians Beverly Gray and Jane Woodworth who serve on the Scholarship Committee. Subsequently, the students are always invited to meet all the Sturbridge Rotarians at one of their meetings. The scholarship recipients and the colleges they plan to attend include: Karl Finelli – Northeastern University, Liang Noinala – Framingham State, Emily Zollo – Fitchburg State University, Elliot Davis – Boston University, Brandon Rothweiler – Stevens Institute of Technology, Mikaela Lachapelle – St. Anselm, and Liam Sequin – Springfield College. Absent was Cameron Simoneau who was attending his college orientation.
Hosting the enthusiastic scholarship recipients is always a special evening for Rotary. The students participate in the meeting by introducing themselves and discussing their choice of college, the path of study chosen and their hope for a bright future.
Since its inception in 1972, the Sturbridge Rotary Club has given scholarships to local graduating high school seniors. Cumulatively, the amount of scholarships given is over $180,000. During the last 20 years, the Club has given $6,000 each year for scholarships.
