Peru: Eyeglasses & Hospital Equipment

Our completed international project continues to help the poor people in Peru, who depend upon government medical services for treatment. 35,000 pairs of eye-glasses and a complete Optometry office was shipped to the Blind Institute of Chiclayo, operated by the Chiclayo Rotary Club.

Also, special hospital beds shipped to the Regional Hospital de Mercedes in Chiclayo are now used in the maternity ward. In all, an estimated $400,000 worth equipment was shipped in a 40 foot container in 2009.

The strong connection between the Sturbridge and Chiclayo Rotary Clubs has resulted in additional help being given to the Wellesley Rotary Club as they ship a specially outfitted ambulance & laboratory to people high in the Andes mountains.
