Susan Waters spoke to the Club about an initiative of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health called MA Responds. This program will enhance the Commonwealth’s ability to prepare for and respond to health related emergencies and events such as the 6/1/2011 tornado, hurricanes, ice storms, etc. It is a web-based system for registration, management, communication and mobilization of volunteers. MA Responds is part of a nationwide effort to ensure that volunteer professionals can be quickly identified and pre-credentialed so that they can be properly utilized when an emergency or disaster strikes. By registering with MA Responds, we can be part of an alert system and respond, when activated, to a public health event or emergency in our local area.
